Adam Fan Cheng-Cheng 范丞丞, 福西西
Audiences first saw Adam Fan on the big screen as a silent security guard in The Door Lock. By then he already had a following of his own. He finished third on a television talent show and began performing with the group Nine Percent, and after the group disbanded he appeared in TV series and kept recording music. On film, Fan started out quite early in big comedies. In Godspeed he played a fiancé who has to win the approval of his future father-in-law, played by Qiao Shan. And in Han Han's Pegasus 2 and Pegasus 3 he was cast as the racer Li Xiaohai. By the time shooting began, Fan already had a racing licence, and his ability to drive a race car came in handy on camera.
Adam Fan (real name Fan Cheng-Cheng) was born on June 16, 2000, in Qingdao, Shandong Province. His older sister is the actress Fan Bing-Bing. As a child he took piano lessons. When Fan went to study in the UK as a teenager, his mother hoped he would eventually get into a music college, but he says he didn't want that. He then persuaded his mother to transfer him to an American school, where he planned to get serious about basketball, but he quickly realized how hard it would be to make it there too. Abroad, he often watched videos of pop groups performing and eventually realized that he himself wanted to sing and dance on stage.
His sister called the head of Yuehua Entertainment and asked whether Fan could come in for an audition. After the tryouts he was taken on as a trainee. At first he didn't tell the other kids about his connection to Fan Bing-Bing. As he recalled, he sang and danced far worse than the others and sometimes stayed in the rehearsal room until morning. During his first performance on the show Idol Producer (偶像练习生, 2018) he forgot the rap lyrics and burst into tears after the number. In April, on the results of the final audience vote, Fan placed third and joined Nine Percent — the group of the contest's nine winners. That same year his first solo song, I'm Here, was released. After Nine Percent's farewell performance in the fall of 2019, he recalled how they stood in a circle backstage and shouted the group's name one last time, and right after that the lights went out.
While the show was airing, a rumor resurfaced online that Fan was the famous actress's son. In 2018 he filed several lawsuits. In one case, a Beijing court examined family documents confirming that Fan and Bing-Bing were brother and sister. The author of the Weibo posts was ordered to apologize publicly and pay 60,000 yuan. In another case, the defendant was the owner of a website that had spread the same gossip. In September 2019 an appellate court upheld the ruling in Fan's favor. He also had to answer questions about his sister's tax case. He said he had found the public attention hard to bear, but that he was proud she was his sister and remembered how she had helped him early in his career.
In 2021 came the costume fantasy The World of Fantasy, in which Fan played the young Qin Le. In the fall he appeared on the big screen for the first time — in the thriller The Door Lock he was cast as Wu Zhijie, the security guard of the building where the heroine played by Bai Baihe lives. His character is a man of few words, and it's hard to tell what's on his mind. Leopard in the horror comedy To Be Continued (2023) was something else entirely. For the role of a hapless online-video creator, Fan put on noticeable weight and appeared on screen with stubble. Shooting the night scenes meant hours of running and jumping. The actor said that in this role he already felt freer than in The Door Lock, though before the premiere he was still nervous about how his character had turned out in the final cut.
In the spring of that year Fan played Wan Yifan in the road comedy Godspeed. His character, a game developer, sets off on a trip with his girlfriend's family and only irritates her father, played by Qiao Shan, even more. The director said he had noticed Fan back in The Door Lock, and after working together on To Be Continued, which he produced, he wanted to cast him in a comedy. Fan was already suggesting how to play up the little things. For instance, he came up with the bit where Wan Yifan sticks his hand out of the car, and at screenings it was precisely this moment that got laughs. The following year, in Walk The Line, he played Yu Qing, a young criminal investigation officer. On television he was cast as the grown-up Zhuang Tunan in the family drama Families in the Alley (小巷人家, 2024). Viewers argued over how convincingly Fan played the adult Tunan after the character had been played as a child by another actor. Fan responded in a livestream that he had read the reviews, was thinking over his work and would try to take the criticism into account.

By the time shooting began, Fan already had a racing licence, which he obtained in 2020. In Pegasus 3 (2026), Fan again played Li Xiaohai, who by then had already competed in European events. In the racing scenes, Fan did his own driving. Ahead of the film's release, he said what interested him most was how Li Xiaohai himself had changed over that time.
Between shoots with Han, Fan played the son of Huang Bo's character in Seize the Day (2025). Before filming the dragon boat races, they trained together in Foshan with real rowers. The scenes on the water were shot over almost a week, and Fan said he rowed with all his might every time because he didn't want to fall behind. After filming, his back hurt so badly that he lay flat for three days. In the autumn of 2026 came Chen Si-Cheng's Traces of Justice, in which Fan played Qi Xiaolong, a student of an expert who examines evidence at crime scenes.
